A record amount of works submitted for the ‘’Latio’’ black & white photography calendar competition

One and a half weeks remaining for entrance into the Latvia Photography Award of the Year contest

The application stage of the traditional ‘’Latio’’ black & white photography calendar competition for 2008 has come to a close. The contest once again is thematic, connected with the 90-year anniversary of the country of Latvia that is coming next year. The number of the calendar contest participants this year has increased by almost one third: in total, 37 photographers have entered with 140 works.

The contest’s goal is selecting works to create a high-quality, artistically valuable black & white photography calendar for 2008, with the theme ‘’Reflection of contemporary Latvia in moments of people’s lives in the context of the 90th anniversary of the country of Latvia’’. This year, once again, both photography masters renowned in Latvia and new authors and photo amateurs have entered the contest. Already in the middle of August a meeting of the contest jury will be held, in which 13 works for the next year’s calendar will be chosen – for the cover and each of the 12 months.

Application for Latvia Photography Award of the Year

The application stage of Latvia Photography Award of the Year will continue for one and a half more weeks – until August 15. Latvia Photography Award of the Year, which is organised by real estate company ‘’Latio’’ in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, this year is being held for the second time.

Based on recommendations of photography and art experts, to facilitate constant development of the Award of the Year, the contest nominations have been improved and changed this year, and an entirely new nomination has been created – Press Photograph of the Year.

The nominations of the Latvia Photography Award of the Year 2007 are:

  • general awards: Contemporary art photograph of the year, Documental photograph of the year, Design and advertising photograph of the year (commercial photography);
  • special awards: Lighting award, Photography exhibition of the year, Photo album or photography book of the year, as well as the new nomination – Press photograph of the year.

The Audience Award has also remained in 2007, and will be bestowed upon the author receiving the largest amount of viewers’ votes in the internet, in the homepage www.latio.lv, section Latvia Photography Award of the Year.
