The authors of the photographies for the traditional black-and-white photography calendar «Latio» are chosen

After the several hour long exchange of opinions, evaluations and discussions, the jury of the traditional black-and-white photography calendar «Latio» has chosen the works of 13 different authors for the 2008 calendar with the united topic «Reflection of modern Latvia in the instants of human lives in the context of the 90th anniversary of the Latvian state».

Of all the applied works the jury has chosen 13 to be included in the next year's  calendar – for the cover and for each of the 12 months. Their authors are Valdis Brauns, Krista Burane, Valentina Doneyko, Aigars Yansons, Anda Krauze, Raimo Lielbriedis, Vilhelm Mihailovsky, Andris Rebhuns, Aivars Sininsh, Eva Shavdine, Aivis Shmulders, Andrey Zavadskiy and Ilmars Znotinsh.

The winner works, which were applied for the competition, are available on the web site www.latio.lv.

The works included in the calendar were chosen from 145 photos applied for the «Latio» calendar competition by 38 authors, which this year set a record number of works applied for the calendar.

Besides, this year both the renowned Latvian artists of the photography art have traditionally applied their works for the competition and also the young authors and photo amateurs. Several authors, whose works were chosen for the 2008 calendar, were also the authors of some calendars of the previous years.

«Photography as an instrument of capturing a moment at the same time gives an opportunity to interpret this moment and time», said the board director of the immovable property enterprise «Latio» Edgars Shins, commenting on the competition topic for the 2008 calendar. «Our goal is to comprehend and interpret time and space we live in with the help of an independent vision of several masters of photography.»

The jury which evaluated the competing works included the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Fotokvartāls" Alise Tifentale, photographers Gunars Yanaitis, Yaroslav Shein and Zigurds Bilzonis, director of the Latvian institute Ojars Kalninsh and the last year's laureate of the Latvian prize of the year in photography „Gaismas balvas” (“Light prizes”), a photographer and historian Peteris Korsaks.
